Ed and Faye Leto started their homesteading journey in 2012.  Moving from Jacksonville Florida, to Morgantown Kentucky was a shocking and exciting transition.  Everything was different! Moving from a city with a population well over 830,000, to a town with a population of 2,400 was a stark contrast indeed.  And going from living on a postage stamp, to what felt like 50 acres of playground, felt freeing.  Wide open spaces.  Fresh air.  Stars that seem to light up the night. 

When we first arrived in the countryside, we started a list of “Kentucky firsts.”  Everything was new, different, and a learning curve.  Over the past 13 years, we have gained a new vocabulary, close friends, new skills, a love of homemade.  

The skills we brought with us, from our 27 years in the corporate world don’t exactly translate here.  Things move much slower.  But life here is more sincere, more intimate, and personable.

When you hear the term “putting down roots” that is rendered more literally for us now.  And living more intentionally, more grounded is what homesteading is all about.  We’re still learning, and the journey continues.
